I/O Expansion

Local I/O Slot:
There are 0/1/4/8 slot options to expand local I/O. And the I/O modules can be parallel bus type (high profile I-8K series) and serial bus type (high profile I-87K series). The difference between them is

Ethernet:
The available Ethernet I/O devices are ET-6000, ET-7000, I-8KE4/8 and I-8KE4/8-MTCP. They support DCON or Modbus/TCP communication protocol.

RS-485:
The built-in RS-485 COM ports enable the communication baudrate up to 115.2 kbps. The medium for connection is a twisted-pair, multi-drop, 2-wire RS-485 network that can link I-7000, M-7000, RU-87Pn and high profile I-87K modules.

To get more RS-232/485/422 ports, you can plug one or more "multi serial port module" in the I/O slot.

FRnet:
FRnet is an innovative industrial field bus. It uses twisted pair cable to be the transmission medium. Each FRnet port can link up to 128 DI and 128 DO channels. The whole I/O statuses are updated at a fixed cycle time (0.72 ms or 2.88 ms) no mater how many FRnet I/O modules is connected to the FRnet network. Further more, the update is done by hardware, there is no communication protocol is needed. Using FRnet, the user can easily and quickly implement high-speed distributed I/O control systems. Its key features are:

  • Easy connection: multi-drop networking with twisted pair cable
  • Easy programming: memory mapping (no communication protocol needed)
  • I/O expansion ability for each port: 8 SA nodes (for DI) and 8 RA nodes (for DO), each node addresses to 16 DI or DO channels.
  • Normally FRnet module provides two communication speeds. OEM customer can call maufacturer to design special FRnet module for long distance communication.

ZigBee:
ZigBee is a specification based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for wireless personal area networks (WPANs). ZigBee operates in the ISM radio bands and its focus is to define a general-purpose, inexpensive, self-organizing, mesh network. The built-in ZigBee chip (just for some items of ViewPAC family) is presented as a ZigBee Coordinator (master). With it, ViewPAC can link up to 255 ZigBee I/O modules.

GSM/GPRS:
The GSM/GPRS modem, SIM340, supports four bands (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) that offers GPRS class 10 capability. With GSM, ViewPAC can send/receive short messages to/from cell phones. And with GPRS, it can implement TCP/IP client/server and UDP client to communicate with other devices over the air.
