Project Requirements
A major water company in Romania intends to upgrade one of their water treatment station in order to have a better view of the whole treatment process. The project requires real –time monitoring of water parameters on the whole process chain, including flow rate, pH, turbidity, tank levels, dosing, and filtration process parameters. The water company requests 24/7 system availability, data acquisition from harsh remote locations up to 5 miles away from the control center, HMI access both locally and remotely via Internet, and re-using some of the existing infrastructure, for ex. fiber optic, sensors, PLCs, etc.ICP DAS Solution

The solution consisting of ICP DAS data acquisition and industrial communication products proved to be very easy to adapt to the application and integrate into the existing infrastructure, and at the same time being very cost-effective.
ICP DAS provides a series of remote I/O modules with a wide range of I/O combinations, communication interfaces and protocols for users to choose from. The users can freely choose most appropriate modules that meet their specific requirements for various applications . In this application, the I-87k series works as expansion unit with modules for local AI & DI data acquisition, and I-7000 Series works for remote AI data acquistion.
In this application, tGW-700 Series is used as Modbus gateways and I-7188 Series is used for Serial Device Servers for remote data acquisition. The tGW-700 is a Modbus TCP to RTU/ASCII gateway that enables a Modbus/TCP host to communicate with serial Modbus RTU/ASCII devices through an Ethernet network, and eliminates the cable length limitation of legacy serial communication devices. I-7188EN converter is a bridge between the Ethernet and RS-232/422/485 and is the most cost effective method to add Ethernet communication ability to the original serial devices.
At the same time, the InduSoft Web Studio HMI platform is a very versatile SCADA platform, making development and upgrading an easy task.
