New Product Release: RFU-400 (429 MHz RS232/485 Radio Modem)
- The RFU-400 is an RS-232/RS-485 to 429 MHz radio modem that can be used to convert data from an RS-232/RS-485 device to an RF message which is transmitted in transparent mode via the 429 MHz ISM frequency band. The RFU-400 provides a maximum line of sight (LOS) transmission distance of 1000 meters (1 km) at an RF Baud Rate of 9600 bps. In order to overcome the interference that may be encountered in harsh environments, the RFU-400 allows the RF transmission Baud Rate to be configured to a minimum of 650 bps, which enhances the capability of the modem to resist noise and other interference. In addition, the RF channels and Group IDs are adjustable; it helps to avoid the interference encountered when two RFU-400 networks are adjacent. The 16 RF channels and 8 Group IDs can be configured in order to distinguish and control the different RFU-400 networks. Most configuration parameters can be adjusted by setting the Rotary and DIP switches; it makes it easy for maintaining the system and for replacing the RFU-400 modem when required.
- Although the Baud Rate for the 429 MHz wireless spectrum is lower than for 2.4G technology, the advantage of the 429 MHz band is the ability to communicate over a wide area. Consequently, this frequency is suitable when the application requires less data to be transmitted, or when there is a long time interval between transmissions, but the transmission is over a long distance transmission, such as when monitoring the temperature or rainfall, or when monitoring and controlling solar panels, etc.
