The iKAN Series is an industrial-grade LED message display designed for PLC applications, featuring excellent noise immunity and high reliability. In addition to the widely adopted Modbus protocol, it also supports Modbus TLS with certificate authentication and EtherNet/IP, providing industrial control networks with high-level cybersecurity protection against data tampering, enabling secure integration with control systems such as PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.

Host systems can write field data to the iKAN over the network and embed the data into messages according to predefined formats for real-time display. To meet the requirements of modern IIoT applications, the iKAN also integrates encrypted MQTT communication and a standardized Redfish management interface, allowing cloud platforms and IT/OT systems to securely update display status through authenticated communication channels. Combined with multilingual support and seven display colors for distinguishing different levels of urgency, the iKAN significantly improves the readability of on-site information.

The device can store up to 128 text messages with configurable priorities. Users can securely log in through a web browser via an HTTPS-encrypted connection from a smartphone or tablet to configure the device or insert emergency messages, without requiring a dedicated control system. With its combination of openness, real-time communication, and robust cybersecurity protection, the iKAN is ideally suited for applications in financial institutions, telecommunications, hospitals, shopping malls, airports, railway stations, and industrial sites with stringent management and security requirements.

Functions & Features

1. Web-based User Interface

Administrators only need to connect to the iKAN message display through a web browser with HTTPS encrypted communication to ensure the security of the configuration process. They can configure message content and update the display directly through the web interface.
No software installation or programming is required. Additional iKAN displays can also be added flexibly as needed, eliminating the limitations associated with dedicated control software.

2. Message Editing

The iKAN message display can store up to 128 text messages with configurable message priorities, meeting the message display requirements of a wide variety of applications.
Once the required messages have been edited and saved through the web interface, there is no need to repeatedly re-edit them. PLC/SCADA systems can control in real time which messages are displayed or hidden, as well as the text color.

3. Message Priority

Messages can be assigned a higher priority. Once activated, high-priority messages will be displayed before lower-priority messages.
Users can use a smartphone to determine whether a specific message should be displayed. Remote host applications can also control which messages should be displayed with priority when an emergency occurs.

4. Supports Multiple Secure and Encrypted Industrial Communication Protocols

Modbus is an industry-standard communication protocol in industrial automation and is one of the most widely used methods for communication between industrial electronic devices.
To meet modern industrial cybersecurity requirements, the iKAN further supports Modbus TLS for encrypted communication. It also supports EtherNet/IP, which is widely adopted by mainstream PLCs, and provides EIP Security encrypted communication capabilities to ensure secure and reliable data exchange across industrial control networks.

5. Integer-type variables enable data mapping

When industrial control equipment uses the Modbus protocol to transmit data, physical values such as pressure, temperature, and weight are typically converted into 16-bit integer values.
After receiving the data, the control host must perform calculations to convert the integer values back into the corresponding physical values. Different devices may use different conversion methods depending on their requirements.
The iKAN message display includes a built-in data conversion function that allows users to define different conversion parameters for each integer value. When data from various devices is written to the iKAN, the device automatically converts the integer values and displays the calculated results.

6. Boolean (Coil) variable to text mapping

In addition to integer data conversion, the iKAN message display allows users to convert the 0/1 status values of switches, relays, and various digital channels into highly readable and easy-to-understand descriptive text.

7. Support for the MQTT IoT Communication Protocol

To seamlessly integrate with cloud and IoT architectures, the iKAN features built-in MQTT functionality, enabling field variables and messages to be efficiently published to or subscribed from an MQTT Broker using a lightweight communication mechanism.
It supports TLS transport encryption and mutual certificate authentication, effectively preventing plaintext eavesdropping and providing more secure synchronization of information displays and dashboards across multiple sites.

8. Redfish Standard Management Interface and Dedicated App

For IT administrators and system maintenance personnel, the iKAN provides a modern, standards-based Redfish HTTP JSON API. Access to protected resources requires authentication and authorization, helping prevent unauthorized modifications.
When used with the dedicated mobile app, on-site personnel can quickly discover devices on the same network segment via mDNS and securely read or write display content and verify data values through a user-friendly graphical interface, significantly simplifying system operation and maintenance.

Applications

1. PLC HMI

The iKAN can be employed as a large HMI with a memory storage of up to 128 messages (user-defined priority), each of which can be used to display information generated by a PLC. A range of seven colors is available for the text, including red, blue, yellow, green, light blue, purple and white, which can be used to indicate warnings or alarms, as well as increasing the readability of a message.    

2. Indoor Air Quality Display

The iKAN can be used to read indoor air quality monitoring data from an external DL-302 module, including the carbon dioxide level, temperature and humidity, and then display the information in real-time, making it suitable for commercial and public buildings, such as schools and museums, as well as for retail, leisure and healthcare facilities where personnel are required to stand for long periods of time, and where the indoor air quality is required to be monitored and displayed at the entrance or lobby of the building.       

3. Dynamic Update of Message Contents Via Modbus TCP/RTU

The iKAN LED Display features a special register area for a PC or PLC to write Unicode character values via the Modbus TCP/RTU communication protocol. The iKAN LED Display will immediately show the Unicode text message written in this area. Users can use this function to dynamically update text message content. For sites limited to using an RS-485 communication interface, this function provides a flexible way to implement dynamic message updates.       

4. DI Trigger Message

The iKAN has built-in two-channel Digital Input (DI) and supports a DI signal trigger message display function. Users can set the message number corresponding to each DI channel on the web page. Once a DI is activated, the corresponding message content will be displayed on the iKAN immediately. This feature can be applied to various applications, including liquid leak detection, hazardous gas detection, and indoor air quality monitoring.
